St. Patrick's Primary School Burrenreagh

About St Patrick's Burrenreagh

St Patrick’s Primary School is situated on the Burrenreagh Road, approximately 3 miles from Newcastle and 2 miles from Castlewellan, in the Parish of Maghera. Ours is a small, rural school with a true family atmosphere. We are proud of our small class sizes and our high standards.

The school aims to help each child to develop according to his/her age ability by acquiring the skills, knowledge and abilities which will enable him/her to become a happy, active participant in society. The Catholic ethos of the school creates the atmosphere in which these aims can be fulfilled, although we are proud to welcome pupils from all faiths and backgrounds.

Our school day begins at 8.00am daily when a large number of our pupils begin to arrive for our very popular Breakfast Club and Art Club. Lessons begin at 9.00am and school finishes at 2.50pm, although many pupils stay for after-school activities or in our After School Club which finishes at 5.45pm daily.

We promote sport and healthy lifestyles and attitudes here in Burrenreagh. All pupils from Primary 3 through to Primary 7 run a mile each day, all through the year. Where possible, these boys and girls can spend break time and lunchtime playing football and games, under supervision, in our extensive sports field.

We would encourage anyone who would like to know more about our school to telephone us on 028 43778593 or e mail us on jhunt307@c2kni.net

"...we welcome pupils from all faiths and backgrounds."

The school coaches pupils in a wide variety of sports including, swimming, Gaelic football, rugby, Olympic handball, cross-country running, basketball and soccer. Each year the school holds an annual Poetry Festival for all pupils. Pupils from St Patrick’s are also entered for Science and Technology Challenges, Irish Dancing, Feisanna and various other competitions which we view as supportive of the children’s education. All pupils from Primary 4 upwards take part in a daily run, where they run almost a mile. Healthy lifestyles, healthy choices and teamwork are topics we promote vigorously here at Burrenreagh. The child is at the centre of everything we do.

Parents are encouraged to play an active role in the education of their children through attendance at meetings, interviews and other events which make up the life of the school. Regular Parent/Teacher meetings are held, and parents are welcome to visit the school at all times to discuss their child’s progress. An active and successful Parent’s Support Association has been established and this provides a means for parents to play a greater role in the life of the school.

We are a school who always welcomes visitors, whether parents, past pupils, prospective pupils or other guests. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with us at any time. You may telephone 028437 78593 or e mail jhunt307@c2kni.net .
