P6/P7 Girls Team Qualify for County Final!

31st May 2023

Congratulations to our P6/P7 girls team who qualified for the Cumann na mBunscol 7 aside county final today. The match took place in Kilcoo GAC this morning against St. Mary's Rathriland who had qualified from South Down. There was a very strong wind blowing right down the pitch. The Referee tossed the coin to see who would play with the wind. St. Mary's won the toss and decided to play against the wind in the first half. The pressure was now on Burrenreagh to get off to a good start. And that's exactly what the girls did. A long early ball into Emmie resulted in a brilliantly taken goal. The goal was followed very quickly with a point from Kianna. St. Mary's replied with a point but Burrenreagh had settled and were playing some brilliant football. Casey was fantastic in goals and with the help of our two tigerish corner backs Leah and Nicole, kept St Mary's scoreless for 8 minutes during which time St. Patrick's had scored 3 goals and 5 points. Sophie who was working so hard up and down the field, then chipped in with two great points. As the girls tired it was time for our impact players to help. Jenna came on for Aoife who had worked tirelessly up front to set up scores. Jenna settled brilliantly, playing some great fearless football. Just on the half time whistle Emmie scored another brilliant goal. Half time score St. Patrick's 3.7 to St. Mary's 1.1. The second half against the wind was much tougher but the girls dug in deep and with the help of the remaining impact players Caitlin, Kayla and Eirinn were able to get the win. On returning to school the players got a much-deserved hero's welcome from the other pupils.
