COUNTY CHAMPIONS 2023!

18th Jun 2023

Saturday 17th June is a date that will live long in the sporting history of St. Patrick's Primary School Burrenreagh. St. Patrick's P.S. Burrenreagh Girls team County Champions! It was one of the greatest sporting achievements the school has had and there have been many But for the first time our school had enough P6 and P7 girls to field a girls team in the Cumann na mBunscoil competitions. The story of the success this year started early in the 1st term when the girls competed in the indoor blitz. During the year the girls bonded and a tremendous fighting spirit developed, added to their never say die attitude and team was forming that would take some beating. The girls football skills and football intelligence was excellently being developed at their clubs. We must thank all our local clubs for the work and support they gave our school as we prepared for the outdoor competitions. The 3rd term outdoor competition began a month ago on Wednesday 17th May when our girls went unbeaten in the 7 aside blitz in Liatroim. This qualified the girls for a tough semi final against St. Mary's P.S. Rathfriland on the 31st May. It was a great match with our girls coming out on top to qualify for the Girls County final for the first time. The final was the stuff dreams are made of, the girls started well but missed some early chances. After a few scores they settled brilliantly and took control of the game. Their work rate, intensity, team play and scoring power proved too much for Maghermayo who fought right to the end. At the end of the match both panels of players were totally exhausted and putting on an excellent display of football. The final whistle went and the celebrations began! Our girls had done it. County Champions for the very first time. On behalf on our whole school community can we just thank the girls for all their hardwork and dedication over their years at St. Patrick's and we all look forward to supporting you at Croke Park some day. Burrenreagh Abu!
