22nd May 2023

East Down Cuman na mBunscoil Boys and Girls 7 aside football.

The East Down Cuman na mBunscoil Boys and Girls 7 aside football blitz was run off in Liatroim GAC pitches on Wednesday. Twelve teams took part from six schools with each school having a boys and girls team. The football on display was of the highest quality which reflected the hard work the schools and local clubs are doing in developing boys and girl’s football. The teams were split into two sections and the winners of each section to qualify for the All-County semi-finals. In group one were St Mary’s Dechomet , St. Francis’ Dromaroad and St. Patrick’s Burrenreagh boys and girls teams. In group two were St. Matthews Maghermayo, St Paul’s Cabra and St. Michael’s Finnis boys and girls teams. All the matches were very competitive with only a few points between the teams. These points would prove vital as goal difference was needed to separate a few teams. In the Girls’competition St. Patrick’s Burrenreagh won group one and St. Matthews Maghermayo won group two. In the Boys’ competition St Mary’s Dechomet won group one and St. Matthews Maghermayo won group two. The winning teams now go forward to play the winners of the South Down Cuman na mBunscoil Boys and Girls 7 aside football blitz.

It was a great day’s football which was thoroughly enjoyed by all present, Grandparents, parents, school staff, officials and especially the pupils. The day was superbly organised by Mr Cranny from St. Matthews Maghermayo. He was excellently helped by member of Liatroim GAC.

On behalf of Cuman na mBunscoil an Dun we would like to thank Mr Cranny, the members of Liatroim GAC who attended and helped with the smooth running of the Blitzes. A special thanks also to Liatroim GAC for the use of their excellent facilities. Thanks also to Declan and Tiarnach for the excellent playing surfaces of the fields that the pupils enjoyed so much today.
