Silhouettes in Primary 6/7

26th Oct 2023

We have been creating silhouettes.  Firstly, we had our side-profile photograph taken.  It was important to have a brighter background for the photograph.  In this case we used the Interactive Whiteboard screen as our background.  Later, we used black card and cut around the outline of our photograph remembering to cut carefully in order to make a precise cutting.  As a result, we produced a dark shape (shadow) and outline of our head and shoulders in restricted light against a brighter background.  We know that a silhouette is the image of a person, animal, object or scene represented as a solid shape of a single colour, usually black, with its edges matching the outline of the subject.  We then had a gallery session in which we viewed all of the art pieces.  To finish, we played a game of ‘Guess Who?’  We jumbled up all the silhouettes and tried to guess who each person was.  We can great fun playing this game.  We really enjoyed this simple, yet effective art activity. It was amazing to create our very own shadows.

Can you 'Guess Who?'
